Singaporean-Style Halal Braised Beef Short Ribs
Ingredients:
- 750g of 200 Days Grain-Fed Black Angus Beef Ribs English Style
- 1 tbsp coconut oil
- 1/2 large onion, sliced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 inch fresh ginger, minced
- 1/2 cinnamon stick
- 1-2 star anise
- 2 cardamom pods
- 250ml water
- 1 tbsp coconut aminos (as a soy sauce alternative)
- 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar
- 1/2 tbsp pure honey (optional, for slight sweetness)
- Salt and black pepper to taste
- Fresh coriander leaves, for garnish
Cooking Instructions:
- Preheat your oven to 150°C (300°F).
- In a heavy, oven-proof pot, heat the coconut oil over medium-high heat. Season the beef ribs with salt and pepper, then sear until well-browned on all sides. Remove and set aside.
- Add the onion, garlic, and ginger to the pot and sauté until softened and fragrant.
- Return the beef ribs to the pot, adding the cinnamon stick, star anise, and cardamom pods.
- Pour in the water, coconut aminos, and apple cider vinegar. Stir in the honey if using.
- Bring to a simmer, then cover with a lid and transfer to the preheated oven. Braise for about 3 hours, or until the ribs are tender and the meat easily pulls away from the bone. (Note: Start checking for doneness around the 2.5-hour mark, as smaller portions may cook faster.)
- After cooking, remove the pot from the oven, and transfer the ribs to a serving dish. Optionally, simmer the sauce uncovered to thicken if desired, then skim off any excess fat.
- Pour the sauce over the ribs and garnish with coriander leaves.
This recipe keeps the unique blend of flavors and ensures the ribs are just as delicious and tender as the original serving. Enjoy your meal with your favorite sides for a fulfilling dining experience.
